Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 charges at the judicial center on the end of the week

An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two young males both between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The legal representative continued: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild notified the police about his worries.

She explained Ruben proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she continued.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.

The legal representative stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.

She said Ruben then played the "candy game" in a space of five children.
