Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
